Tim Proetel studied art at the Akademie der Bildenden Künste in Munich, Germany from 1992 to 1998. Since 2000 he has held different positions:
- art-educator at secondary schools
- coordinator of inservice training for art teachers at the Akademie der Bildenden Künste, Munich
- instructor for art at the Staatsinstitut für Schulqualität und Bildungsforschung, Munich
- instructor for trainee teachers at Wittelsbacher-Gymnasium Munich
- member of the school management team at Richard-Wagner-Gymnasium Bayreuth
- author of a series of books about drawing
