Her work is rooted in questioning, in the expression of inner life, in the exaltation of pathos and affect, and in the desire to communicate it, she says. Through her highly expressive works, which are rich in color and material effect, Winnie proposes ways and means of speaking about our being in the world, focusing on the invisible. In abstract representations, the artist seeks to express a liberating warmth that alludes to the reductive condition of speech that most women experience in society.

Biography

Born in 1995 in Foto-lingang, in the west of Cameroon, Winnie Songmene is a visual artist. She holds a bachelor's degree in sculpture and a master's degree in drawing and painting from the Foumban Fine Arts Institute. She expresses herself essentially through painting, though with a sculptural influence. Her relationship with art is that of a "saving journey", she says, translated by the spontaneity of the pictorial and sometimes sculptural gesture.

Winnie was one of the winners of the CCN (Caméronien Cultural Net Work) tour 2023 competition and has already taken part in a number of exhibitions at various artistic and cultural venues and events. The most recent are: the 4th edition of Women art connects at the Zee Art gallery in Dubai (2020), the group exhibition Abstraction at the Doual'art contemporary art center (2020), Annie Kadji Art Discovery (2022), the Ruin'art festival 2022 with the exhibition sensitive approach, the third edition Hin'Art with the exhibition mask to masks at the Akwa Hin hotel Douala (2022).
