Tecnobrega - is a popular musical genre that emerged in Belém in the state of Pará in the 2000s. The genre mixes elements of internationally commercial music, such as electronic music and pop music, with regional genres from Pará, such as Calypso, Brega, and elements of Carimbó, based especially in the use of synthesizer and drum machine. Tecnobrega reveals a condition of social distinction, in which being “tacky” means having aesthetic “bad taste”. Affected by stigma to a greater or lesser degree, tecnobrega producers, DJs and singers are the protagonists of a legitimation movement for this music based on multiple discourses that value brega as the main regional popular musical expression.
