The title of my painting is "Boy Child as an Endangered Species," inspired by my observations of how societies treat boys. While they are often seen as strong and bold, they are also vulnerable and in need of care and love, just like girls. I believe in promoting gender equality and supporting all children, regardless of their gender, to ensure a fair and inclusive society. Equal opportunities and addressing issues faced by both boys and girls are crucial for fostering a balanced and harmonious environment. By focusing on the well-being and development of all children, we can create a supportive and just world for everyone.

The painting I've created draws inspiration from my life experiences, particularly how I've witnessed the differential treatment of boys and girls. Coming from a humble background, I've observed that society often disregards the way boys are dressed, allowing them to wear any clothing, be it baggy, small, torn, or none at all. However, dressing a girl in similar attire is considered offensive, as it is believed to expose her to potential sexual harassment and other dangers. This stark contrast highlights the prioritization of a girl's safety and basic needs over those of a boy. Unfortunately, this neglect places the boychild at risk and vulnerable to predators, just like girls face the threat of harassment. As a society, we must strive to create equal opportunities for both genders, ensuring their safety and well-being.
My name is Nicholetta Muthoni Murithi, and I am currently in my final year at Kenyatta University, pursuing a Bachelor of Education in Arts, with a focus on Fine Arts. As a passionate visual artist and fine art teacher, I am currently working at Kisumu Boys High School, where I am actively engaged in the CBC practicum. My artistic endeavors revolve around creating paintings that center on wildlife and humanitarian issues, shedding light on pressing current matters. Beyond my profession, my hobbies include painting, traveling, and indulging in humanitarian documentaries. Hailing from a humble background in Tharaka Nithi County, Kenya, my ultimate goal is to inspire young women and mentor youths in the visual arts industry, a mission I've already initiated with my students. My life motto, "Never give up, regardless of the situation," stems from my personal experiences, including facing depression and sexual harassment. I am participating in this cause to support the boychild, who often faces silence and lack of emotional support.
