Lawrence Atsu, Gender Matters. 2023. Digital drawing

The 2D drawing explores the theme of gender matters through a thought-provoking scene. It depicts a woman bus driver standing before her bus, inviting passengers to board, but facing rejection and discrimination. One man dismisses her and reinforces traditional gender roles by suggesting she should be cooking breakfast for her family. Another woman expresses fear, assuming the driver is inexperience. Despite these discouraging encounters, there is one passenger willing to join, symbolizing the potential for progress and inclusivity. This powerful artwork prompts us to reflect on the challenges women face due to gender biases and the need to challenge and overcome them.
