In this painting, I was inspired by how most women discover strength in the desperation of hopelessness, it resides in the seasons of grief; it lives in the land of disappointment. Never are we to allow ourselves to believe the only show of strength is when we dismiss the pain of life. It is walking through the pain of life that our strength is created. My mom is one of the best example I can give.
Having lived long enough with most women in my life, I can honestly say that it’s not the beauty I am drawn to. That is not to diminish the value of the physically beautiful women in our lives. Trust me, they really do have their own challenges, often insecure like every one of us and are capable of possessing the same traits that display the truest form of beauty.
Edgar Kang'era, Blind Love
This is an oil painting on canvas panel that is inspired by how someone falls in love with another person and overlooks each other’s faults, negative aspects, or flaws. They are so mad in love that they ignore the person’s imperfections, mostly because of the strong emotional connections they have with them. Love can cloud a person’s judgments and perceptions, making them unable to see reality when it comes to the person they love. This phase can be used to describe a person’s attachment to someone, where they are ignoring everything around them.
Edgar Maigo Keng’ara, a talented Kenyan visual artist based in Kayole, Nairobi, is renowned for his remarkable drawings and paintings. He passionately explores Realism and Surrealism styles in his artworks, capturing the beauty of color and light with exquisite finesse. Introduced to painting by a friend during his time in high school, Edgar has since been utilizing both oil and acrylic paints to further develop his unique artistic vision, aiming to make every element of his paintings equally significant. He draws inspiration from artists like Zephaniah Lukamba, Pencilmaster Animation Kenya, Andrew Tischler, and Jono Dry. Edgar's journey in art also led him to learn how to paint Basketball Courts, guided by his mentor, Moses Musosi, founder of the Far East Basketball Association (FEBA). As one of the prominent young Kenyan artists, his works have been showcased at prestigious venues, including The German Embassy in Nairobi, FOTA Art show at the International School of Kenya, and African International University, among others.
