I, Aobakwe Matsepola, am driven by a profound passion for Afrofuturistic abstract art. In my artistic journey as a surface designer, I seek to bring the boundless spirit of Africa into the contemporary world, where tradition, innovation, and imagination intersect to create captivating and thought-provoking surface designs.
Afrofuturism allows me to envision a future where the essence of Africa flourishes in harmony with contemporary advancements and without losing its cultural identity and heritage. My designs are a celebration of the resilience, diversity, and creative ingenuity of the African people.
Drawing inspiration from the vibrant energy of my hometown, Rustenburg, I embark on a quest to explore the uncharted territories of abstraction. Transcend conventional boundaries in this dance of lines, creating designs that evoke emotions and spark curiosity.
I reimagine ancient African motifs and symbolism through my designs, fusing them with contemporary aesthetics. The past and present intertwine in a mesmerising symphony, inviting viewers to contemplate the interconnectedness of time and space. Each design becomes a portal, offering glimpses into the collective dreams and aspirations of the African diaspora.
I invite viewers to contemplate the evolution of culture and the potential of the human spirit. My designs are an open invitation to embrace the present while honouring the footsteps of our ancestors and envisioning a future where diversity and progress are celebrated hand in hand, an invitation to explore and reimagine the future. Afrofuturistic abstract art becomes a vessel for introspection, inspiring conversations about identity, unity, and the transformative power of art.
As a surface designer, I am committed to pushing the boundaries of Afrofuturistic abstract art. My mission is to adorn spaces with designs that transcend mere aesthetics and leave a lasting impact on those who encounter them. Through my work, I strive to create an environment where the essence of Africa is celebrated and the beauty of progress is harmoniously woven into the fabric of our collective journey.
