In cooperation with the art education network project Exploring Visual Cultures (EVC), the first Artist / Art Educator in Residence Program will take place at the University of Education, Weingarten from September 7 to 28, 2025.
The South African ceramic artist Mellaney Roberts (https://bermancontemporary.com/mellaney-roberts/) will work artistically in our workshops for two weeks, and another week (15.09.-19.09.2025) is planned for a student workshop on ceramics. The workshop will be held in English and, in consultation with Prof. Dr. Ute Massler, will also be open to students of English. The three-week program will end with a joint exhibition by the artist and the students on September 26, 2025 in the rooms of the Schlossbau of the University of Education.
The artist is designing the student workshop under the motto "Call and Response: Art Beyond Borders". It is a collaborative, reflective exploration of creativity, community, and interconnectedness. Students are invited to submit a personal verse or phrase that reflects their thoughts, emotions, or observations about themselves, their classmates, and their surroundings. These submissions will serve as a "call" to which participants respond by selecting one of the phrases and creating an artwork that visually represents or interprets the chosen text. This dialogue between words and visual art encourages students to engage deeply with each other's ideas, fostering a sense of shared identity and a heightened awareness of their environment.
