March 6 - 11, 2023: EVC Textbook Workshop in Ghana

Can there be a joint textbook for schools in Ghana and Germany focusing the subjects art, geography and history? In October 2022, colleagues from Ghana, South Africa and Germany got together to explore this idea (Link). Initial ideas, concepts, but also concrete drafts have already emerged. Time to meet and talk about the state of affairs. In March, members of the German team (for Geography: Gabriele Schrüfer, for Art: Christian Römmelt, Philipp Schramm and Ernst Wagner) as well as Avi Sooful, Chair of the EVC Expert Panel, visited their colleagues in Ghana and worked on the project. And they explored the visual culture in Accra and Tamale together. Selasi Awusi Sosu, Mahmoud Malik Saako, Patrique deGraft-Yankson, Osuanyi Quaicoo Essel, Ebenezer Acquah, and Gertrude Nkrumah were wonderful hosts.

 

A very special highlight was the visit to the National Museum in Accra, where Malik Saako showed the new presentation of the collection. Both sides, the National Museum and EVC, made it clear during this visit to continue working together in the future. Among many other places, the engagement with the Red Clay Studios in Tamale together with Ibrahim Mahama was a particularly inspiring experience.
